Land Acknowledgement

The Youth Parliament of Manitoba (YPM) acknowledges that we are gathered on Treaty 1 Territory and that Manitoba is located on the Treaty Territories and ancestral lands of the Anishinaabeg, Anishininewuk, Dakota Oyate, Denesuline, and Nehethowuk Nations. We acknowledge that Manitoba is located on the Homeland of the Red River Métis, and that northern Manitoba includes lands that are the ancestral lands of the Inuit. Many of our Members currently live on Treaty 1 Territory, and we host Session on Treaty 1 Territory as well. But YPM Members come from across Manitoba, including Treaty 5 Territory and its adhesion.

In accordance with the parliaments of Canada and Manitoba, the Youth Parliament of Manitoba uses Westminster parliamentary procedure. Although we are a model parliament that engages youth in fun aspects of parliamentary traditions, they are still inherently colonial. We respect the spirit and intent of Treaties and Treaty Making, and remain committed to working in partnership with First Nations, Inuit and Métis people in the spirit of truth, reconciliation, and collaboration.
