Canada Youth Parliament

What?

In addition to Session, members of YPM also have the valuable opportunity of participating in the biennial Canada Youth Parliament (CYP), hosted in alternation by four YPs:

Though only the above four YPs take turns hosting CYP at their local legislatures, members from all YPs across Canada are invited to attend.

Delegates from the 18th Western Canada Youth Parliament, held in Winnipeg in 2018.

History

In 1981, YPM (then known as Youth Parliament of Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario) organized the first Western Canada Youth Parliament (WCYP) as a project to commemorate our 60th anniversary. This marked the first occasion where representatives from all four YPs in Western Canada attended (although BCYP did not officially endorse its participation). The first WCYP in which all four YPs officially participated was at the Alberta Legislature in 1983.

In 2019, the four YPs ratified the Canada Youth Parliament Act proposed by the British Columbia Youth Parliament, which replaced the Western Canada Youth Parliament Act, renamed the event accordingly, and opened participation to other YPs across Canada.
