Wrapping Up YPM104

After five frosty, debate ridden days of Session, YPM104 has come to an end! With three exciting bills introduced for debate, the chamber was lively, with members engaged in riveting discussions on the Senate Reform Act, the Alcohol Regulation Act, and the Universal Post Secondary Act. These legislations were debated widely by our members, with the Senate Reform Act passing, with 56 yeas, 8 nays, and 14 abstentions, and the Universal Post Secondary Act passing with 41 yeas, 10 nays, 19 abstentions. The Alcohol Regulation Act did not pass, with 25 yeas, 39 nays, and 11 abstentions, concluding compelling sittings.

Many thank yous are in order, but I would like to start with the Backbenchers. All the Members’ commitment to this organization is why we are able to host Session every year. Thank you for your intense debate, riveting commentary, and fantastic inaugural speeches.
To the Cabinet and Executive, thank you for your continuous dedication. Keeping everything together amongst the many challenges, whether it’s fighting with the printer, or managing to keep everything running on lackluster levels of sleep. I would also like to thank the Legislative staff for putting up with our unconventional practices, and occasional mix ups. Lastly, thanks are in order to everyone who contributed anything to the Session. Our sponsors, dignitaries, and parents of backbenchers willing to drive them out early on Boxing day, thank you. It is this spirit that has kept YPM going. To our Speaker, Xiao, I wish you all the best. Thank you for always showing such commitment, even amongst your medical school woes. YPM will miss you.

With YPM104 also came an enactment of an emergency sitting, due to an alarming public health crisis! Members debated the best ways on handling this situation, and theorized the origin of this suspicious disease (I hear our Registrar General had something to do with it…) Alas, the sitting concluded well, and the safety of Canadian citizens seems guaranteed for the moment.

I know I had a fantastic Session, it is always so incredible to be back in the Chamber, and getting to know the Backbenchers is a highlight of every Session. This was my first year on Cabinet, and everyone was so supportive, the community here at YPM is truly unmatched.

Until next time,

Anondita Kazi, Minister of Communications YPM104
