Parliamentary Executive

Youth Parliament of Manitoba is a non-profit corporation of the province of Manitoba. It is administered by a volunteer board of directors. In keeping with our motto of By Youth, For Youth, all members of the Board are between the ages of 18-25 and are elected by and from the participants of the previous annual session.

The board of directors also acts as the parliamentary executive. Each member of the Board also carries a title corresponding to an actual position in government leadership in the Canadian parliamentary tradition.

The Premier of the 89th Youth Parliament of Manitoba: Darcy Vermeulen Premier

The Chairperson of the board of directors acts as the Premier of YPM's parliamentary sessions.

The Premier's responsibilities include:

  • coordinating the planning of sessions;
  • presiding over all meetings of the executive, the cabinet and the general membership;
  • representing YPM to outside organizations and the news media;
  • supervising the execution of sessions; and
  • presenting a report on the state of the organization at the Annual General Meeting.

The Speaker of the 89th Youth Parliament of Manitoba: Jennifer Pawluk Speaker

The Past Chairperson of the board acts as the Speaker of YPM's parliamentary sessions.

The Speaker's responsibilities include:

  • acting as the Chief Electoral Officer at the Election Meeting;
  • acting as the primary liaison between YPM and the alumni; and
  • presiding over the membership at sessions.

The Speaker of the 89th Youth Parliament of Manitoba is Jennifer Pawluk.

The Deputy Premier of the 89th Youth Parliament of Manitoba: Robby Pankhurst Deputy Premier

The Vice-Chairperson of the board acts as the Deputy Premier of YPM's parliamentary sessions.

The Deputy Premier's responsibilities include:

  • fulfilling the responsibilities of the Premier in her or his absence;
  • taking accurate minutes at all meetings of the executive, the cabinet and the general membership;
  • keeping accurate contact information of all members; and
  • supervising all YPM activities during session while outside of the Manitoba Legislative Building.

The Deputy Premier of the 89th Youth Parliament of Manitoba is Robby Pankhurst.

The Deputy Speaker of the 89th Youth Parliament of Manitoba: Darren Haber Deputy Speaker

The Director of Finance of the board acts as the Deputy Speaker of YPM's parliamentary sessions.

The Deputy Speaker's responsibilities include:

  • keeping accurate financial records;
  • receiving all dues paid by members; and
  • fundraising.

The Deputy Speaker of the 89th Youth Parliament of Manitoba is Darren Haber.

The House Leader of the 89th Youth Parliament of Manitoba: Alyssa Morrison House Leader

The Director of Procedures of the board acts as the House Leader of YPM's parliamentary sessions.

The House Leader's responsibilities include:

  • advising the Board on all matters of procedure;
  • calling for amendments to all internal governing documents;
  • presiding over meetings of the executive, the cabinet and the general; membership in the absence of the Premier and the Deputy Premier; and
  • supervising all YPM activities during session while inside the Manitoba Legislature.

The House Leader of the 89th Youth Parliament of Manitoba is Alyssa Morrison.
